DTED.org¶
DTED.org publishes terrain elevation releases for the Team Awareness Kit (TAK) ecosystem. Each active state endpoint provides enhanced regional terrain, a lower-resolution fallback, visible source and quality information, and setup and offline artifacts for TAK clients.

Public information system
This service is intended for publicly releasable information only. Do not submit or transmit Federal Contract Information (FCI), Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI), classified information, export-controlled information, proprietary information, or operationally sensitive information. Activity may be logged for security and service operations. Report suspected security incidents to info@snstac.com. This notice does not represent CMMC certification or authorization to process FCI or CUI.
Start here¶
- Select a published state on the DTED.org coverage map.
- Open that state page and scan its QR code to configure streaming.
- In ATAK, use the built-in Elevation Tools. Simple DTED Streamer is optional.
- For offline use, download and import the state's zipped DTED package.
The state page is authoritative for its endpoint, release quality, source licensing, current coverage, and other available sources for the same region.
ATAK client paths
ATAK can stream DTED with its built-in Elevation Tools. The optional Simple DTED Streamer plugin uses the same state endpoint.
Learn what is behind the map¶
- Why terrain matters describes operational uses and the decisions terrain data can support.
- Terrain science and data lineage explains DTED levels, SRTM, post spacing, accuracy, vertical references, and limitations.
- OV-1 operational view follows data from source acquisition through a published endpoint to a TAK user.
- Further reading collects primary USGS, NASA, NGA, and TAK references.
Machine-readable discovery¶
DTED.org publishes read-only discovery interfaces:
/api/v1/productslists active TAK elevation products and their configuration artifacts./api/v1/coveragelists active datasets and exact enhanced 1° DTED cells./api/v1/regions/STATE/terrain-sourcescompares production sources and eligible public QA previews for one region./api/v1/sourcesdescribes supported sources, common uses, users, and limitations.
DTED level describes sample spacing, not guaranteed horizontal or vertical accuracy. Confirm that a release and its source are suitable for the intended operational use.
